Micromax’s LapTab could have been the first device
out of the block at this year’s CES dual-booting Android and Windows
8.1, but snapping on its heels, in a close second place, is a much more
powerful and much highly specced offering from Asus, the Transformer
Book Duet TD300.
The 13.3 inch convertible laptop /
tablet hybrid can dual boot between Windows 8.1 and Android 4.2 Jelly
Bean. The device sports an up to 1080p display, powered by an up to Core
i7 processor and 128 GB of solid state drive in the tablet. Attach that
keyboard dock, and apart from various ports for USB, Ethernet and HDMI,
you also get a full terabyte of storage for your media needs.
The unit weighs 1.9 kgs in total, and
should arrive in Asia and parts of Europe by the end of the first
quarter starting at a price of $599. For that price, though, you get a
slightly inferior 1366 x 768 pixels display and a Core i3 processor.
Stepping up-to the full HD 1080p display would set you back by an extra
$100, but we feel it would be worth the improved display quality. The
plastic construction doesn’t scream premium as a metal one does, but for
the price, it will have to do.
We will get back to you with any information pertaining to its Indian launch as and when we hear about it, so, stay tuned.
