REASON WHY NOKIA ADOPTED WINDOWS OVER ANDROID

reason

In the hyper-competitive market when everyone was hushing for android, someone was silently observing and thinking What’s gonna be the future?  Somebody knew what’s going to happen.
The possible reason for Nokia adopting windows platform and not android is
  • Samsung was powerful and had the first mover advantage to adopt the pioneers software. They were doing pretty well, better than iOS (some say) but others were getting ready to take the share of pie.
  • Soon Samsung was joined by HTC, Micromax, Sony, Acer and many more. Hyper competition and bombarding the consumers with new products every other day
Nokia was silently observing the ploy, it knew that there can only be one winner and Samsung was clearly thrashing every other competitor with Android in the market. So entering into the already crowded market didn’t make sense. Differentiation is an essential component of successful business be it any sector. Today out of every 10 random smartphones 8 are running on Android says a new study.
Nokia almost vanished like blackberry’s present condition. So Nokia had one vision, when every other operating system is taking a beating in the market, there was someone promising which entered into the Arena – Windows. The name is big when we talk about Microsoft. A symbol of delivering excellence. So Nokia saw the opportunity and knew that it could be looked upon as the alternative to the existing champions i.e. iOS and Android. And the bold step was taken yet again by Nokia.
The gamble worked in their favor with Nokia Lumia 520 as the best selling phone in the market. They have started gaining market share in the lower end segment. But the higher end segment is still captured by the winners of yesterday, i.e. Samsung and Apple.
Nokia’s vision of being looked as an alternative to iOS and android is turning out to be somewhat sensible. Lets see how will Nokia tap the higher end segment.
