iPhone 6 to be offered in two screen sizes: 4.7″ and 5.7″+, claim Foxconn sources

And then there were two! Apple’s iPhones were not known to be offered in two new variants together, until last year. 2013 saw Apple break the tradition by announcing two iPhones at the same event. One was the usual aluminum encased iPhone 5S, the yearly iteration for Apple’s most successful product to date, and the other a ‘cheaper’, plastic-coatediPhone 5C, which aimed to introduce some color and flavor in Apple’s smartphone lineup for those who thought regular iPhones were just a tad too dull.
Apple had already stretched the screen-size of its phone to 4 inches with the iPhone 5 in 2012 from 3.5 inches, which had stuck right from the first device which changed the world of smartphones in 2007. And now, new rumors are pointing to an even more gargantuan leap in screen size, a distinctly Android-ized size in fact, for the iPhone 6, to be unveiled this year.
If a couple of sources with an excellent track record concerning leaks about Apple products are to be believed, some Foxconn insiders have revealed at the New Year’s party that the company plans to release the next iPhone in two sizes: one with a 4.7 inch screen, and another with a 5.7 inch display, or bigger. And that both the devices would sport biometric sensor of some kind: fingerprint sensing Touch ID like in iPhone 5S and/or something more advanced like iris recognition.
Given that the actual announcement is still a long way down the road, 9 months approximately, every bit of this rumor should be taken with a very big spoonful of salt. But given the changing times at Apple, who would have thought they would have introduced two iPhones last year, and the success Android phablets, specifically Samsung’s large screened smartphones, have achieved, we can not entirely discount this particular rumor. An added reassurance to the thought that Apple may indeed be considering larger and two distinct screen sizes for their next iPhone (whether it comes to fruition can be debatable), is that the very same sources leaked Apple’s plans of releasing two iPhones together last year, the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5C.
Will you be comfortable with using a larger screened iPhone? Would an Apple made phablet be your cup of tea?
