Mark Zuckerberg's Net Worth Increased by $12.4 Billion Last Year

Mark Zuckerberg had a very good 2013.
The Facebook cofounder and CEO's net worth increased by $12.4 billion last year, the largest gain of any current tech exec, not counting Bill Gates, according to data released this week from Bloomberg Billionaires Index. Zuckerberg is currently worth more than $24.5 billion.
That increase in his net worth was driven by Facebook's stock, which doubled for the year. Facebook stock started the year at $27.44 a share and ended at $54.65, thanks to renewed optimism for the company's ability to monetize on mobile and growing confidence in the social space in general.
To his credit, Zuckerberg has taken steps to give some of that money back. For the second year in a row, he and his wife Priscilla Chan donated 18 million shares of Facebook to charity. This year, those shares were worth nearly $1 billion. Zuckerberg also signed a pledge in 2010 to give away most of his wealth to charity during his lifetime.
Other tech execs did quite well for themselves last year, too, according to the Billionaires Index. Gates, the former Microsoft CEO who now focuses on philanthropic efforts, saw his net worth increase by $15.8 billion, thanks to a surge in Microsoft stock. Meanwhile, Elon Musk's net worth increased by 233% during the year, the largest percentage increase of any billionaire on the list, resulting from a huge spike in Tesla's stock price.

Asus Transformer Book Duet convertible runs Android and Windows, switches between them seamlessly

Manufacturer                         Asus
OS                                       Android, Windows

Micromax’s LapTab could have been the first device out of the block at this year’s CES dual-booting Android and Windows 8.1, but snapping on its heels, in a close second place, is a much more powerful and much highly specced offering from Asus, the Transformer Book Duet TD300.
The 13.3 inch convertible laptop / tablet hybrid can dual boot between Windows 8.1 and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. The device sports an up to 1080p display, powered by an up to Core i7 processor and 128 GB of solid state drive in the tablet. Attach that keyboard dock, and apart from various ports for USB, Ethernet and HDMI, you also get a full terabyte of storage for your media needs.

The unit weighs 1.9 kgs in total, and should arrive in Asia and parts of Europe by the end of the first quarter starting at a price of $599. For that price, though, you get a slightly inferior 1366 x 768 pixels display and a Core i3 processor. Stepping up-to the full HD 1080p display would set you back by an extra $100, but we feel it would be worth the improved display quality. The plastic construction doesn’t scream premium as a metal one does, but for the price, it will have to do.
We will get back to you with any information pertaining to its Indian launch as and when we hear about it, so, stay tuned.

Status                                God Knows
CES 2014 is taking place in Vegas as always and we all know it’s the town of Show off and HTC formally High-Tech Computer Corporation took the moment and mood of the town and showed off the HTC one we all love so much in Champagne Gold colour in all it’s glory.
Earlier in 2013 HTC also showed off the HTC one 24 Carat edition which I think was a phone for only a handful of people. But this is just a Champagne Gold variant of the normal HTC One following the trend set by the Gold iPhone 5S. Now the sad part HTC clearly mentioned the Phone will not be landing in US, which might also be case for Asian market as well. Also HTC one was surely and is the flagship but it’s soon going to be an year since it’s launch and most probably we will be seeing a sibling to the ONE. This might just be the M8 that has been in the rumour mill for long now. Whatever the successor may be it sure has huge shoes to fill considering the heights set up by the ONE.

LG might be plan for launch G2 mini version in the near future

Could this be getting smaller??

The LG G2 was a surprisingly good phone, even if it didn't rocket off the shelves, and now it looks like it's getting downsized like so many flagships before it.

That's according to Greek site Techblog, which has heard that a mini version of the handset is in the works. Supposedly it will be shrunk down from 5.2 to 4.7 inches but will have the same Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor and 2GB of RAM as the LG G2.

That's the same as the rumoured Sony Xperia Z1s, which also looks like it might eschew the desire to drop the spec when making a smaller device.

Small, but not that small

If so it won't actually be all that mini, since it will have the same screen size as the HTC One, but it could be small enough to tempt those who baulked at the mammoth dimensions of the LG G2.

It's not known whether the screen will be 720p or 1080p - although at 4.7-inches we'd hope the latter. We assume it will retain the rear key and other features of the LG G2 that are becoming... erm... iconic..

Techblog suggests that the LG G2 mini, or whatever it ends up being called, will probably be announced during CES 2014 in January, but that appears to just be a guess rather than inside knowledge - although MWC 2014 is just around the corner...

Best tablets under Rs 20,000

The year 2013 was dominated by phablets rather than tablets. This doesn’t mean there was a dearth of tablets in the market. Apart from bigwigs like Apple and Samsung, we saw several tablets flock into the sub 20,000 budget category from Indian as well as international manufacturers.

Winner: Xolo Play Tegra Note

The Xolo Play Tegra Note is the latest Nvidia-based entrant in the Indian market. Powered by a 1.8GHz Nvidia Tegra 4 Cortex A15 processor, the 1GB of RAM doesn’t seem to limit the performance as heavy games load very quickly and the frame rate is solid. Add to that, the almost stock Jelly Bean 4.2.2 (Xolo has promised 4.4 update) and we’re looking at blazing fast performance. Priced at Rs 17,999, it isn’t as superior as the Nexus 7 in terms of built and display quality but a lower price, a useful stylus, expandable storage and great gaming performance make up for it. Moreover, it brings Samsung S-Pen-like features along with good gaming performance at a significantly lower price. Read our complete Xolo Play Tegra Note review

First Runner-up: Nexus 7 (2013)

Built once again by Asus, the new Nexus 7 shares the same design principles as the Nexus 5. It sports a 7-inch 1200 x 1920 display, with pixel density of about 324 ppi. It is lighter and thinner than the previous model and the tapering edges make it easy to hold with one hand. The rubberised back adds to the grip while the bezel on the sides have been shaved down, making it look like a narrower iPad mini. With an MRP of Rs 20,999, the main highlight of the device is the improved Full HD IPS display with a pixel count that goes all the way up to 323 ppi. The Nexus 7 was launched with the v4.3 Jelly Bean earlier this year, but it’s now upgradeable to Android 4.4 KitKat, and most likely would get future updates too. It is powered by a Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor that clocks at 1.5GHz with 2GB RAM. Other specs are 16GB/32GB storage options, 5MP rear and 1.2MP front-facing cameras, NFC support and 3950mAh battery. Read our first impressions of the Nexus 7 (2013), and watch the space for our review.

Second Runner-up: New Asus Fonepad 7

An update to the Fonepad launched earlier this year, the all new Asus Fonepad 7 also features a new non-slip finish as well as a faster HSPA+ 3G with up to 42Mbit/s download speeds. It has a smudge-resistant coating that wards off fingerprints and Mirecast wireless video streaming to let you check out videos on compatible HDTVs. At Rs 17,499, the updated Asus Fonepad is a great choice for a tablet with voice calling functionality. The customised user interface integrates social media information, allowing users to check out updates on their contact list features on the tablet. It is powered by an Intel Atom Z2560 processor with Hyper-Threading technology and 1GB RAM, and comes with Android version 4.2 Jelly Bean out of the box.

iPhone 6 to be offered in two screen sizes: 4.7″ and 5.7″+, claim Foxconn sources

And then there were two! Apple’s iPhones were not known to be offered in two new variants together, until last year. 2013 saw Apple break the tradition by announcing two iPhones at the same event. One was the usual aluminum encased iPhone 5S, the yearly iteration for Apple’s most successful product to date, and the other a ‘cheaper’, plastic-coatediPhone 5C, which aimed to introduce some color and flavor in Apple’s smartphone lineup for those who thought regular iPhones were just a tad too dull.
Apple had already stretched the screen-size of its phone to 4 inches with the iPhone 5 in 2012 from 3.5 inches, which had stuck right from the first device which changed the world of smartphones in 2007. And now, new rumors are pointing to an even more gargantuan leap in screen size, a distinctly Android-ized size in fact, for the iPhone 6, to be unveiled this year.
If a couple of sources with an excellent track record concerning leaks about Apple products are to be believed, some Foxconn insiders have revealed at the New Year’s party that the company plans to release the next iPhone in two sizes: one with a 4.7 inch screen, and another with a 5.7 inch display, or bigger. And that both the devices would sport biometric sensor of some kind: fingerprint sensing Touch ID like in iPhone 5S and/or something more advanced like iris recognition.
Given that the actual announcement is still a long way down the road, 9 months approximately, every bit of this rumor should be taken with a very big spoonful of salt. But given the changing times at Apple, who would have thought they would have introduced two iPhones last year, and the success Android phablets, specifically Samsung’s large screened smartphones, have achieved, we can not entirely discount this particular rumor. An added reassurance to the thought that Apple may indeed be considering larger and two distinct screen sizes for their next iPhone (whether it comes to fruition can be debatable), is that the very same sources leaked Apple’s plans of releasing two iPhones together last year, the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5C.
Will you be comfortable with using a larger screened iPhone? Would an Apple made phablet be your cup of tea?

Bump and Flock Will Shut Down On January 31

Google acquired contact and file-sharing app Bump back in September. Bump co-founder and chief executive David Lieb said the company was “thrilled” to join Google, citing similar passions for sharing information between people and devices. We’re not too sure he’ll feel the same way now.

Bump and Flock are no more and will stop working and be removed from Google Play (and the App Store) on January 31st, 2014. The reason for this decision: Lieb and his team are now “deeply focused” on new projects within Google and don’t have the resources or time to devote to innovating on either product.

The app allows iPhone and Android users to “bump” together two phones to share contact details and files between devices. Later versions also allowed phone users to “bump” phones with desktop computers.

In September 2011, the company announced it had 50 million downloaders and 10 million active “bumpers.” Just less than a year later, more than 600 million photos were shared by “bumping” phones. Later it released an iPhone-only version photo-sharing app dubbed Flock (not to be confused with the social browser of the same name).
